Stations of the Cross (V): Simon the Cyrenean Helps Jesus'
After 8 years in the making, Chris Gollon's Stations of the Cross nos. I-XIV have finally been installed permanently in this beautiful grade-one listed church, designed by Sir John Soane. His powerful series of paintings were used as an active aid to worship in the Good Friday service at 10am. This was an ambulatory service interspersed with readings and music, passing from Station to Station, in remembrance of Christ's last journey. (See Commissions page for further details of Chris Gollon's Stations).
The paintings now serve as an attraction to visitors as well as remaining an active aid to worship. St John on Bethnal Green is situated between the Museum of Childhood and Bethnal Green Tube.
We'd like to thank Gallery Techs for their superb work in permanently installing all 14 paintings in the Church.
