'The Bearded Woman of Ventura (after Ribera)''The Bearded Woman of Ventura (after Ribera)'

This painting was part of the Sense & Sensuality exhibition, at the Bankside Gallery, London SE1. This fund-raising touring exhibition of works by sighted and partially sighted artists, toured to the Richard Attenborough Centre in Leicester until 31st January 2007. Chris Gollon used black lava for the five o'clock shadow on the woman's face, so blind and partially-sighted people could feel the incipient beard. A catalogue accompanied the exhibition with forewords by Professor Glynn Williams (Head of Fine Art, Royal College of Art, London) and Professor David Ekserdjian (Head of Dept of Art History & Film, University of Leicester, and Trustee, National Gallery, London). Catalogues and information from Blind Art.
