Framed: £3,800. In the late Renaissance, Philosophy was often depicted as a woman, wearing a dress with flowers at the bottom, fish in the middle and stars at the top. Stars are contemplative in this depiction of the three branches of Philosophy: Natural, Moral and Contemplative. In the Middle Ages these 3 branches of Philosophy were identified with the elements of earth, water and air. Chris Gollon has taken a fresh look at both, and mixed them together for a modern eye.
