As with many of the paintings in the 'Gods, Angels & Souls' series, this painting is partially inspired by Professor Adi Ophir's text on Gollon's work in the 'Being Human' catalogue. Ophir is convinced Gollon can through physical distortions actually paint the human soul. Gollon started to ponder this and also ask what is left when a person's reason goes through dementia of Alzheimer's disease, is it the soul? Is it the 'self'? Gollon was very affected by both Prof Ophir's text and his own experience of a loved one suffering dementia, and so decided to attempt to paint the residue in question: human souls.
