This monochrome painting was first shown and sold in the November 2007 exhibition 'The Basement Tapes', a solo show of Chris Gollon's work at IAP Fine Art, London. This painting fitted the one of the themes of the show, which was how printmaking techniques can influence painting and vice versa. In this work we see how many of the lines were made by a reverse process (used in monoprint making) where the artist scratches in with the wrong end of the brush, removing pigment, to make the lines.
