In a shocking and unflinching fashion, Otto Dix often painted the ageing prostitutes and war cripples of post-First World War Germany.
Gollon's homage to Dix here is an equally unflinching gaze at the tragedy of ageing. However, a Gollonesque sense of absurdity and humour, breathes a warmth of feeling into the scene.
