This painting was partially inspired by Bob Dylan's soundtrack to Sam Peckinpah's great Western film 'Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid' (Columbia Records 1973). The soundtrack has numerous references to Boot Hill, since bounty hunters and lawmen and murderous landowners are gunning for Billy The Kid, played by Kris Kristofferson. We often see the little cemeteries on a hill outside of the Western genre's one-horse towns, and the expression Boot Hill probably comes from the common theft of a man's boots before his burial. "Up to Boot Hill they will send ya/Billy you're so far away from home..." Dylan.
Chris Gollon also produced a curious still life linked to this painting entitled 'Still Life: Boot Hill Style'.
