This painting is the last still life Chris Gollon painted in 2007, and represents almost the culmination of his experiments in this genre.
His still life have often hinted at human dramas outside the canvas. Here, the objects have almost crossed the line and become animate, perhaps dancing as lovers, or almost wrestling. There is a human, physical, tension, that is almost palpable. This work seem to take a little from Francis Bacon's tortured poses, and de Chirico's shadows, and yet be fully absorbed and made new in the Gollonesque view of the human condition, Gollon's style and deep sense of absurdity.
