The Way To Amarillo

'The Way To Amarillo''The Way To Amarillo'

Category: Paintings

Artist: Chris Gollon

Subject: Landscapes

Year of Work: 2004

Media: mixed media on canvas

Size: 30" x 20"

This painting takes its title from the famous Toni Christie song, which Chris Gollon heard again whilst watching TV with his daughter the 'Top 100 Worst Pop Songs' (it came 4th). It is perhaps one of those magnificently awful songs, that are catchy enough to annoyingly linger in one's head. Gollon's way of purging it, was to paint the famous Way itself. Although no-one will believe it, Gollon's absurd take on this popular song was painted (and exhibited in Cork St, London, September 2004) before British comedian Peter Kay's wonderfullly comic, joyous and marching rendition for BBC's Comic Relief. If disorientated a moment, the pink, candy-coloured arrows, will help the spectator secure his or her way to "Where Sweet, Marie/Waits For Me". This painting is available from IAP Fine Art, London.
