‘Big Fish Eat Little Fish’: museum acquisition & display

Museum & Art Swindon

20th Oct 2026 – 16 Jan 2027

Following the sad closure of the River & Rowing Museum in Henley on Thames, six works by Chris Gollon held in its collection have been acquired by Museum & Art Swindon, latter which now has a new home in a wonderful Art Deco building in the centre of the town.  Its nationally significant modern and contemporary British art collection includes paintings, works on paper and sculpture, from the 1890s until today.  In the 1940s a focus on contemporary collecting began, and the collection now contains hundreds of artworks by prominent modern artists including Lucian Freud, Howard Hodgkin, Gwen John and L.S. Lowry.  From October 2026, the collection now includes six works by Chris Gollon including the hinged triptych ‘Big Fish Eat Little Fish’,  pictured here, and currently displayed in Art Unpacked: Celebrating New Acquisitions Since 2020. The museum has also acquired ‘Gollon at Henley’, the museum commissioned painting of the Henley Royal Regatta, and four silk-screen print studies.
